So cool

I just downloaded this picture from earlier this month of Jordan at our local playground. She and her brother were biking around the neighborhood so Jordan had her helper bike hand on. So while we were running around the playground, I got the idea that Jordan should try to hang from these rings. Her hanging didn’t last a terribly long time, but it was awesome. She liked it.

What you can kind of see is how her long arm is getting a bunch longer than her helper arm. I can’t wait until we get her next version! By the way, she can also hang from rings with the help of a hook helper arm. To be honest, it’s only recently when I’ve seen Jordan use her hook hand in any way (and that’s probably why I don’t have a lot of pictures of her wearing it). But just this week she was running around the house with one of those rain noise makers in her helper hook hand. You know, those long tube things that sound like rain when you turn them upside down. It was so cool.

It looks like we’re going to be able to get Jordan’s new arm in June. It’s a month later than planned, but I’m really excited. I love how Jordan brags to her friends how she’s going to get an elbow with her next helper arm. My little girl is growing up and figuring out the helpful ways to use the tools we bring into her world.

Well, look at Jordan!! That’s awesome! Gosh, what do you do with all the used arms? I imagine with her growing so fast you must have quite a collection?

We are looking at donating one of her old arms. The others aren’t very useful to anyone else… I haven’t quite figured out what we’re going to do with those!

I have no reason to but I am feeling proud, too, of her accomplishments.

I understand there were many amputations done in Haiti in the aftermath of the earthquake.

Barbara, I met a group of missionaries who are grief counselors in Haiti who meet many new amputees. I showed them a link to this blog in hopes that Jordan can show them that a limb loss can’t stop them! I also found a link to an MSNBC project where they’re asking amputees to write letters of support to people who lost limbs in Haiti. I hope I was able to give a little bit of understanding and care to the many people who feel like their lives are ruined. They aren’t ruined, just different!

    This is so cool!
One time when we were at the park and a child noticed Gavin’s arm and was asking questions, she said that it was too bad he would never be able to hang from the monkey bars. I said that I bet he would be able to, maybe just not the same way she did it. And here is Jordan to prove it! 🙂

Isn’t it cool? Jordan didn’t hang there a really long time, but she thought it was fun while she was hanging!

This is so awesome!! Way to go Jordan!!

Ashlyn (my girl) just got home yesterday from St. Louis after getting her measured for her new arm. I’m pretty excited about it. This will be her first “functioning” arm. She’s only had one passive arm to this point, so I’m nervous and excited both.

I show her pictures of Jordan all the time and she says, “That’s me.” They sure do look alike.

Best wishes and keep up the great work…both of you!!

I’m bummed I missed a chance to see you guys while you were in St. Louis. Let me know when you’re back for a fitting! We’d love to see you. (We live 2 hours away from St. Louis)

Jordan loves seeing pictures of other kids with “little arms.” It would be wonderful to see you in person!

Congrats on the new helper arm! I hope it helps Ashlyn find new ways to play and enjoy life!

Ashlyn has not yet met any other kids that are like her. We look at pictures and we talk about them, but I think it would be fantastic to have her meet Jordan in person. They would be like two peas in a pod I’m sure. We come in from Kansas City to St. Louis. Are you closer to KC or the other side of St. Louis? We’ll be back in the area in a few weeks to pick up her arm, maybe we can arrange a play date!!

P.S. I put in the wrong webpage in your comments. Ashlyn’s webpage is: http://ashlynjean.blogspot.com/

I’m hoping to get a lot more pictures of her up soon. Stay tuned!! 🙂

Trisha – I have seen Ashlyn’s site – I love it! I’m going to send you an email with details about how we can meet up!
