Party time

Jordan had a chance to go to a birthday party for a little girl’s first birthday. We were lucky to be invited thanks to the birthday girl’s big sister, A. She and Jordan have a special little arm bond.
The two girls had fun in between the great food, birthday cake eating and gift opening. I think it’s just another incredible chance friendship that we would never have had without a limb difference in our world.

On our way to the party, Jordan was complaining how it wasn’t fair that A is a big sister… even though Jordan is older. My response: Life is tough. Jordan will have to grow up as the little sister. Earning the title “big” sister is not in our plans. Luckily A’s mom said Jordan can be a big sister if she’d like. I offered that proposal to Jordan and she announced:
I can be a big sister to ALL little kids!!

That sounds like a heck of a lot of responsibility. But I certainly hope Jordan can be a mentor to younger kids. One of our young friends from Camp No Limits got to go through the Amputee Empowerment Partner’s mentor training this weekend. Kids and adults get nominated for this honor and I’m certainly excited for him. I treat my job as a mom with a limb different child as an opportunity to mentor other families and let them know everything is going to be okay. (Even when I might feel unsure at times myself.) I really hope Jordan will be a big sister and support other kids as they grow together. That’s why parties like today’s are special to me. We’re growing friendships thanks to the kids’ differences.

And here’s a big happy first birthday to little E. She looks beautiful in pink cake.

I love those pictures!! I could just scoop them all up and hug them and hug them and hug them some more and never let go!! So cute! I wish I could find more opportunities like this for Ashlyn and I. Hmmm…maybe I need to be more outgoing? Can YOU be MY mentor? 🙂

I cannot tell you how much I want to do this. Ashlyn LOVES older girls, and if she met one that had an “arm like me” (she would say), I think she would be on top of the world!! As would I!! We have got to get to planning this. MAYBE as a special treat between the holidays??? Oh…I just can’t wait. I’d probably take 4 million pictures!!! Let me know what your schedule is like and we’ll find a way to make it work!
