I went on a candy hunt

I like candy. I run and exercise so I can enjoy things like a good beer and a yummy candy bar from time to time. In the last four years, our family has worked very hard to focus on healthy eating and staying away from high fructose corn syrup. That means we left many of our favorite candies behind. I’m not that sad about it. We eat more ice cream (with local or at least natural ingredients) and less candy from the drug store.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I attended BlogHer’s HealthMinder Day. After I moderated a panel at the event, I attended some evening events. One was the Sweet Suite where I got to see one of my most favorite toy representatives: Janis from Imperial Toy. (Here’s a picture of her from BlogHer11 – she’s on the far left). The second was SocialLuxe  Lounge where I learned about UnReal candy. Oh my goodness. It’s good.

The company gave party attendees free candy samples and information on the company. They didn’t pay me a dime to write about it. I don’t often post about food at all. But I feel the need to tell you about this candy because I actually went on a hunt for it in my town. I couldn’t find any at Target so I went to Walgreens. I didn’t find any at Walgreens… So I went to Staples. That’s where I found my jackpot. We were heading out of town for our big wedding road trip so I grabbed candy bars and M&M-like snacks. Jordan loves the peanut butter cups while I’m kind of obsessed with the caramel candy bars (the ones without peanuts). Cameron is still warming up to most of the candy. There is an obvious difference in taste since the ingredients are all real. No processed flavors are included. I personally think it makes everything taste better. But the 10-year-old may need a bit of a taste adjustment. I’m certain he’ll get there.

I’m excited to see this new candy option… and I’m hoping the company will come up with smaller versions for Halloween and lunch boxes. In the meantime, they’re great for road trips and non-guilty moments of indulgence.

By the way, Unreal didn’t pay me for this post. But I did get a few free samples of the candy during the SocialLuxe Lounge party… But then I went out and bought a bunch more on my own.

Let me know when you are making another candy run. Maybe I can tag along. I do not ingest corn at all, so most candy is not an option for me. And we all know that I need some bonbons for my idling hours.

      Corn-free bonbons sounds perfect. It’s a date.
