Getting brave

Jordan is in a swimming class with her brother… And we’re at that point where we’re trying to get her to try to swim. You know, when you push her towards the wall and hope she doesn’t breathe in the water. She’s been really confident until recently. She wants to cling to me when I want her to relax. She won’t jump into the pool, even though she knows its fun.

We’re more than a month away from local pools opening up, and I really hope we can get her to a point where she’s comfortable swimming without me really worrying about her safety. At the same time, I talked with Jordan’s prosthetician about her swimming and figuring out ways to give her more leverage. He talked about how he’s been able to build a wing on something like water wings. We’re really looking forward to the trip! And I’m looking forward to finding more tools that help Jordan in her quest to do everthing. (And she’s already shown she can do it all – just sometimes it’s done differently)

I am so impressed! I can’t wait for Marit to be a more confident swimmer. We gotta get these girls together- when are you going to be in DC again? Miss you terribly!

I’ve never told you but I love that your online name is NerdyMom. Could be mine, too. Swimming is my favorite one-size-fits-all fun exercise. I bet she has already taken-off bravely as I write this.

We’ve had more swimming success in the last week! We’ll have her swimming like a pro by the end of the summer!
